Photographing the Fair · Well, as it started off I was hoping I could get into the fair for free. It makes sense...I’m doing an article about the fair after all. Yet, despite spending eight dollars to get into the fair it was definitely worth it in pictures and experience by the end of the shoot. |
Key notes · Before heading to the fair make sure you bring the necessary equipment. This equipment would be things such as tripods, remotes, WIDE lenses, and whatever else you will need to photograph in the dark. Also try to look nice, there is lots of people (a.k.a new clients) who will be taking notice of you doing photo work. Your lenses should range from 10mm through 150mm’s. And a flash is good too. |
Shoo fair people · There were some interesting obstacles for photographing the fair. Extraneous lights will often be the problem yet keep in mind the people at the fair can be even worse. Standing in front of your camera or making gestures or merely just being in the frame can ruin the shot. Try and keep you trip to the fair to a low attendance day. But otherwise bring business cards to the fair.

Getting the right angle · Getting the right angle is extremely hard at the fair. I was incredibly surprised how hard it was. My recommendations are simply...get lights to show movement. Keep things in perspective. Always use the thirds rule. Try and get elevation with something such as the Ferris wheel, or a two story fun house. And walk around first and/or see the photography gallery at the fair too. They often have fair photos there to use as example.
